This is both a tactical and political move for Obama, as he is able to bring in a seasoned and well-regarded politician–and another carryover from the Clinton years–while also rewarding Richardson for his support during the primary campaign. Furthermore, it was crucial for Obama to nominate a high-profile Hispanic leader to his cabinet, and Richardson certainly accomplishes that feat, as well.
